Why you pay for Johnny.
Anyone can find a supplier. Knowing which one you need, whether a piece is really worth it and who should make it — that is the work.
Your Johnny is an independent personal search and advice service. You pay for expertise, research, quality assessment and selection. When buying from Your Johnny’s own range, Your Johnny is your seller; for a direct order with a maker, you agree the work with that maker. You know in advance what you pay for and who supplies each part.
- Knowledge
- Johnny trades in vintage leather clothing and leather goods himself. That means he sees what a catalogue does not show: the difference between real leather and artificial leather, a lining that is falling apart, seams that were badly repaired once, or a jacket that still looks good but is no longer worth it.
- Network
- You don’t have to find the right specialist yourself. Johnny works with a network of specialist craftspeople. He knows which question each of them can handle — and which they cannot. The details of that network stay between Johnny and his partners.
- Selection
- Most options fall away. Johnny removes the weak ones and keeps only what really fits your size, budget and use. If he says nothing is worth it, you buy nothing. That saves you buying a piece you later regret.
- Search work
- Johnny searches via several channels at once, with sizes and materials you have to reconcile — while you would still have to do that yourself.
Why not search yourself?
You can. For a few things, searching yourself is fine, and Johnny says so too.
Usually the sticking point isn’t finding, but assessing. Four questions a catalogue cannot answer:
- What size is it really? Label sizes differ per brand, country and period. An L from another era is not an L from today. Measurements say more than the label.
- Real leather or artificial leather? In a photo, artificial leather and poorly cared-for real leather look suspiciously alike. You cannot tell that from a single image.
- Will it last? On older jackets the lining, the inside and the wear points often say more than the outside.
- Is this worth it? An attractive price does not make a working piece good. That is a judgement, and you don’t learn it from one photo.
That assessing work is routine for Johnny. For you, searching per item is a job in itself, with a gamble on what you can see.
And if it is simple to find yourself, you hear that too. If your question is simple to solve yourself, I’ll say so honestly. Not every question requires a paid service; if I can’t offer meaningful value, I’ll tell you.
Sometimes the best solution is a direct introduction to a supplier. If my involvement adds no value, I’ll tell you.

The Your Johnny search and consultation service is a paid service based on time and expertise.
You pay for the time Johnny spends on tasks such as searching, comparing, evaluating, advising, contacting sellers or makers, and discussing potential options.
Personal Sourcing & Advice
€49.00 per hour, including VAT.
Time block: we agree the maximum time budget beforehand. We discuss any extra time first.

Your Johnny provides personal sourcing assistance through an international network of traders, collectors and specialist makers.
We discuss your wishes, budget and the work involved beforehand.
Beforehand, you receive an estimate of the research, product assessment, personal guidance and associated costs. Paid work starts only once you agree to the work and costs.
The rate applies to the time spent searching and the advice provided. There is no guarantee that a specific item will be found.
We can work by the hour or within an agreed time block. Before you give your approval, we record the maximum hours or sourcing budget.
The purchase price of vintage items, shipping and any additional costs are not included in the hourly rate.
Custom Made manufacturing prices and Steeltoys product and custom-work prices are agreed separately. The hourly rate applies only to Your Johnny’s personal sourcing and advice; it applies to partners’ work only if expressly agreed.

- The budget for the item itself. This determines what can be found within your search request.
- Search budget
- Johnny’s search and consultation time. We agree on the hourly rate and the maximum number of hours—or the time budget—in advance.
What one hour of search work gives you
- Searching in the agreed channels, on size, colour, material and budget.
- Comparing sizes and, where needed, asking for real measurements instead of a label.
- Assessing photos and descriptions for material, construction, lining and hardware.
- Contacting sellers and makers with concrete questions about the piece.
- Putting options side by side and leaving out the weak ones, instead of showing everything.
- Explaining what an option means for fit, use and lifespan.
Where do we search?
Johnny researches suitable offers for your request and compares material, condition, size and price. You receive a focused selection and an explanation of the options. Specific sources and trade contacts remain part of the personal research.
What do we agree on beforehand?
- What you are looking for: size, dimensions, color, material, and style.
- New or second-hand; your strict requirements and your preferences.
- Your maximum budget for the product and any additional costs.
- The rate and the maximum number of search hours or the specific search budget.
Johnny conducts the search and provides advice as precisely as possible within these agreed parameters. You evaluate any proposal yourself; you are under no obligation to purchase an item that is found.
No guarantee of results
A search assignment is a service based on best efforts. Therefore, Your Johnny cannot guarantee that:
- the desired item will actually be found;
- an item will be available within the desired budget;
- a specific size, color, version, or material will become available;
- an external seller still has the item available;
- information from an external seller is accurate or complete;
- a seller, maker, or supplier will accept an order;
- you will ultimately make a purchase or that a purchase will meet all your personal expectations.
Even if nothing is purchased or found, payment is due for the time spent searching and advising, in accordance with the agreements made and applicable consumer regulations.
A cooling-off period may apply to services agreed upon remotely. Starting during that period requires specific, explicit agreements. Read the terms regarding the cooling-off period and the decision to stop looking..
Advice remains just that—advice.
Your Johnny draws on its experience with clothing, leather goods, vintage items, fit, quality, and materials to provide the best possible input.
However, advice does not constitute a guarantee. The final decision to purchase an item, have one made, or engage an external provider rests with the customer.
Wherever possible, any concerns regarding aspects such as material, sizing, condition, or quality are clearly highlighted in advance.
The absence of a guaranteed outcome does not mean Your Johnny bears no responsibility: Johnny remains responsible for its own work and for providing careful advice.
External providers
When Your Johnny suggests an item, maker, webshop, or other external provider, this does not automatically mean Your Johnny is responsible for execution or delivery by that party.
If you enter into an agreement directly with an external seller or maker, you make the arrangements for that assignment with that provider. If you buy from Your Johnny, then Your Johnny is your seller. Read how responsibilities are divided.
Clarity upfront
Your Johnny wants to avoid the search becoming unnecessarily expensive. That is why we agree on the budget, your requirements, and the maximum search time before the work begins.
If more time is required than agreed, this is discussed with the client before the search continues.
In short: you pay Your Johnny for time, knowledge, search efforts, and advice—not for a guarantee that a specific product can be found.
Agreements with the maker
The budget for the product or Custom Made work is separate from the agreed budget for Johnny’s search and advice time.
With Custom Made, the maker first confirms feasibility, execution, costs, the schedule, and the delivery time. Any payment, deposit, and delivery details are discussed with you before you give your approval.
Thorough searching and crafting takes time
There may be a waiting period. If you have a specific date in mind, please indicate it. Rush jobs or expedited searches may incur additional costs; we will discuss this beforehand as well.
A search request does not guarantee a specific result. Not every Custom Made idea is feasible. You will receive honest advice, even if a different or less expensive solution is a better fit.
