Custom Made / Custom leatherwork

Something made just for you.

Personalized custom work in genuine leather, tailored to your wishes, measurements, style, and intended use.

Asking a question does not commit you to anything.

Custom Made means personalized custom work in genuine leather: a piece tailored to your wishes, measurements, style, and intended use, crafted by a maker. Think of a collar, harness, garment, or another wearable or distinctive piece.

Your commission doesn’t have to start with an existing example. A personal idea, a specific fit, or a desired design is enough to start the conversation; an existing piece is one possible starting point, not a requirement.

Johnny discusses your wishes, collaborates with you on material, construction, and finish, and connects you with a maker suited to your request. Johnny does not make the piece itself.

Where your commission begins.

With your own idea

You know what you want to wear but not yet exactly what it should look like. Describe it, or show something that conveys the right mood. That’s a great start.

Based on measurements and fit

Tell us what you currently wear and what could fit better. Freedom of movement, closures, and areas where the leather pinches or stretches are all points for discussion.

Based on a desired design

Material, color, finish, hardware, details. The more concrete your ideas are, the more effectively Johnny and the maker can contribute to the process.

With an existing piece

An old or worn garment can serve as inspiration or a practical starting point. That helps, but it is not necessary: a project can just as easily begin without an example.

What we focus on.

Craftsmanship and material

Genuine leather, assessed for suitability for your purpose and for durability. Which type, thickness, and finish will withstand use while remaining beautiful?

Fit and comfort

Whether it feels comfortable, allows for movement, and maintains its fit over time just the way you want. A beautiful piece that fits poorly is not a success.

Construction and finish

Seams, closures, reinforcements, and hardware are evaluated based on their function. Details are finished for actual use, not just for the shop window.

Personal guidance

Johnny considers your wishes and budget and handles communication with the maker. You don’t need to be an expert in the craft yourself.

Johnny is your point of contact. Cliffton makes the leatherwork.

Johnny helps clarify your wishes, priorities and budget and works with you to choose the right maker. For Custom Made leatherwork, that is Cliffton, who works under his own label, Black Label.

Cliffton brings expertise in fashion, leather, patterns, fit, and construction. True craftsmanship also means being honest about when a material or construction isn’t suitable for what you have in mind.

Comfort, fit, quality hardware, durability, and finish are all equally important.

Not every request calls for Custom Made

A suitable vintage, second-hand, or new solution might already exist. We explore that route first so you don’t pay for something you could already own.

For steel, furniture, and technical structures, Ludo from Steeltoys might be the right specialist.

Custom Made: what are the terms?

We discuss dimensions, material, color, hardware, finish, design, budget, and expected delivery time in advance. Feasibility, execution, price, and delivery time vary by assignment and are determined on a case-by-case basis; there is no fixed price or fixed turnaround time. The maker confirms what is technically and practically feasible. If you commission an external maker directly, their terms and conditions apply in addition to your statutory rights.

For products manufactured specifically to personal specifications, the statutory right of withdrawal may not apply in certain circumstances. Merely selecting from standard sizes or options does not automatically exclude the item from this right. Statutory rights regarding defects remain applicable. We will discuss any applicable exceptions before you place your order.

An assignment begins with your wishes. What do you want to wear, what will you use it for, what are your measurements, and what look do you want to achieve? An existing garment can serve as inspiration or a practical starting point, but it is not required: you can also begin with just an idea, a sketch, or a measurement.

An example is a reference for your wishes, not an instruction to copy. We do not make exact copies of protected designs or brands. We can make a piece suited to your function, fit and finish. We discuss permitted changes and the boundaries of a protected design with the maker beforehand.

You decide for each assignment whether your existing piece is to be preserved, partially replicated, or used solely for reference. Nothing is set in stone until you have discussed it with us and the maker.

Who carries out your project?

If you enter into a direct agreement with Cliffton, Steeltoys, or another partner, you make arrangements regarding execution, price, delivery, and after-sales service with that partner. If you buy from Your Johnny, then Your Johnny is your seller. Johnny remains responsible for its own sourcing and advisory work.

Johnny compares possibilities and helps bring your request to the right specialist. If ordering directly is the best route, he will say so. An introduction is not automatically a paid advisory commission.

Do you already have a detailed idea for your custom piece?

The custom order brief helps you document the following:

  • a reference photo or example, if you have one — this is optional
  • your measurements, or the measurements of an item that fits well
  • what you want to wear and the intended use
  • material preferences and hardware
  • desired design and finish
  • elements to be retained or, conversely, modified
  • practical requirements, such as usability and shipping

Johnny advice and the maker’s commission

Johnny
Sources, assesses and advises. Helps you develop your request, reviews materials and construction, and prepares the brief. This is a paid service in its own right; we agree the maximum time budget beforehand.

€49.00 per hour, including VAT.

The maker
Determines whether the commission is feasible, creates their own proposal, and provides the price, schedule, and delivery time. The price, delivery time, and schedule for Custom Made are discussed by the maker before you place an order.

An inquiry or a WhatsApp message does not constitute a commission or a paid search request. Work only begins once you give your approval.

Your Johnny acts as the advisor and liaison; the maker carries out the Custom Made work.

Tell Johnny your idea

An idea, a measurement, a photo, or an old piece—you don’t need to have it all ready. Johnny will discuss your wishes and outline the details.
